Melon

Melon has a variety of elements that are actually not found in other fruits. Melon in honeydew form is known to have been originated in Asia. However, there are details showing that a typical muskmelon was growing in |Egypt as early as in 2,400 B.C. While the cantaloupe came from India and Guinea and has been in cultivation for over 2,000 years.

Melon is very high in alkaline and in 1900, it was introduced to the United States of America, which makes Arizona and California the biggest producers in the U.S. Melon is available all year round but it is at its peak in July to September. The cantaloupe on the other hand is available from May up to September, but in June and July are the months that it comes most abundantly.

Another variety of the winter melon is the casaba which is normally picked before it matures and it is ripened off the vine. This is also the case fort the honeydew. However, the cantaloupe does not develop additional sugar after it is picked. This type of melon should be picked carefully without leaving a jagged scar. It is easier to pull off the vine while it is still hard.

You may be able to tell the difference of the melons by their scent, color, and firmness of the rind. The cantaloupe is usually coarse over its surface. Many opt for a cantaloupe due to its sweet smell. The casaba has a golden color and feels heavy especially when ripe. And the honeydew is a creamy yellow and the notable scar in the blossom end simply yields to a slight pressure.

The flesh color of a melon is also important. This is due to the degree of ripeness and the appearance. A casaba melon is cream in color when ripe, while a honeydew melon has a yellowish cream color, and a cantaloupe has either light or dark salmon shade which is based on its variety. A nutritional fact is that a melon has a deep color, is it very high in vitamin A.

When you are eating a melon, never discard the rind because you are to going to miss one of its best elements – the silicon. Silicons are gland and blood-building chlorophyll, so eat your melon right down to the rind. You may run it through a liquifier or a juicer.

A watermelon has such high content of water and soluble content, making it a popular and effective eliminator. The melon season is a good time to fortify our body with vitamins A, B, and C which are all found in all types of melons. Melons are comparatively rich in alkaline forming element considering nearly all fruits are like this. A melon that is high in alkaline can help you lose weight, can increase you energy, as well as reduce the rick of heart attacks and the deadly cancer.
